General questions about the heater.

Category: *General questions

  1. What is the warranty on the furnace?
30 day 100% satisfaction guarantee-If within 30 days of use, when installed according to the instructions you are not completely satisfied simpley RETURN (you pay freight) in good condition to Ironton, Mo. (factory location)for a full refund of purchase price. The firebox on your Lil'House Heater is warrantied for 5 full years against burnout. Not rust. If burnout should occur, return to Ironton, Mo. (factory location) and they will replace the fire box at no charge for materials or labor for up to 5 years from date of purchase. This is directly off the brochure furnished by the factory to us.
  2. Does the blower have a warranty?
Yes it is warrantied for one full year from date of purchase. Simply call and speak to us, we usually can ship another one out if needed quickly. We don't have much trouble with blower motors at all in over 20 years of manufacturing.
  3. What is warranty on rust out?
No warranty! It is the customers responsiblity to keep the drum from rusting. Taking down the chimney in spring and sealing the top of the furnace to keep water out of the stove . I recommend you remove ashes and coat the insides with used motor oil. Water and ashes make lye and it will eat thru the firebox. It is up to the factory to decide if a stove is warranty or not, I don't have any control over that. However we don't have alot of trouble with them.

  4. How long does the firebox last?
It depends on how well you take of it!.... If your a person that in the fall pushes the mower over to the fence row.... you will get 2 or 3 years out of a drum. If your the guy that cleans the mower up and drains the gas etc........I see them lasting anywhere from 6-9 years. Not bad at all.
  5. How long have you been using a heater yourself?
I bought one before I started selling them. This will be my 17th winter heating with one. I use the propane as a backup only. I have a 150 gallon tank and just fill it once a year and we cook out of it. Last winter (2004) I did not even light my pilot light on my furnace.
  6. Do you sell a hot water system?
    No just the Lil'House heater!
  7. How big of house or shop can I heat with this?
Ok that is a loaded question! I have seen 3000 sq.ft. houses thac could be heated with one of these. I have also seen 1500 sq.ft. houses that it was all it could do to heat. If you have a hard to heat house this probably is NOT the cure all! You know your house better than me. It is made to heat up to 2400 sq.ft. and is rated 100000 btu's. Now remember that kind of wood you use will also make a difference on heat output. So will age of house, kind of insulation, windows etc. On shops a concrete floor will actually wick the cold to anything that is bolted down. It also makes a difference how tall the walls are and if the ceiling is enclosed. I always recommend ceiling fans to "push" the heat back down in a shop building some. Call me or email me to discuss your particular situation.
  8. What about insurance?
This is a commercial made unit and the burner has been tested to U.L. standards by R.F. Geisserr %Associates, U.L. standard 1482  Copies of results can be purchased from the factory. There are some insurance companies that just don't like any type of wood heaters. So you could possibly have to change companies. My agent keeps brochures in his office.

  9. I want to buy one! What do I need to do?
Either call me or email me so we can get started. I will ask you some questions to check to see if your on the right track as for as application. We can set up a time for you to come pick one up or check on the freight rates to get one shipped. So it is up to as I don't bother people by calling them pestering them after they contact me. I try to treat people the way I would want to be treated.
  10. What kind of buildings will this work for?
Houses, mobile homes, wood working shops, automotive shops, farm shops, 2 story houses, some earth homes, log homes, rock houses, green houses (small ones),
  11. How many sizes are there?
Just one! Rated 100000 btu. and up to 2400 sq.ft.
  12. Will you sell me a heater so I can "improve" on the design to make it work for me?
No I will not! First that voids the warranty. Second you will not like me since it won't work. It works the way it is designed and that is that!

  13. What options are available for the furnace?
It can be either a right or left handed heater. What that means is when you are facing the door of the furnace the heat duct that comes off the top of the stove either goes right or left.......A left handed furnace is additional over a right handed furnace. You can also get a extension heat duct. The ducts can be made 6ft in length and can be added together. Longest heat duct I have ever sold is approx 15 ft long. That is all the options that there are. The longer heat ducts can be shipped out by UPS.

  14. Can I pay with a credit card?
Yes you can, but we do charge an addtional fee. We try to keep the furnaces as low priced as possible so our margins are low. We also do charge Missouri sales tax if you pickup your furnace in the state. We do take local checks and can take certified checks from your local bank. No problem there!
  15. Can my wife load it of a morning when she starts my pickup to warm it up?
Well yes she can and then in the evening after dinner before bedtime she can load it about halfway and then at bedtime finish filling it if it is cold and you need the additional wood for the night. Since the mess is all outside be warned she will have more time to spend at Wal-mart (less housework). 2x a day is normally all you will have to fill it.

  16. What happens when I need to replace the firebox?
Well if your close enough to me or the factory you can bring it to us and we can rebuild it and you can pick it up for the season. If your too far away you can purchase a rebuild kit and do it yourself. No it is not super expensive.

  17. Why is this so CHEAP and does it really work?
Yes it really works, if it didn't I would have friends and neighbors at my backdoor. Over 450 satisfied customers! It is not cheap it is inexpensive. Most folks can pay for one in a year or maybe 2 of use then it is FREE HEAT!
  18. Are the testimonials real?
Absolutely, I would have more but I forget to ask folks to write one for me. I put them on the website just like I get them nothing changed. If you have one and want to write a testimonial for me send it to me either by mail or email. Thanks!

  19. How close to the house does the heater sit in with a regular heatduct?
From the outside wall of my house to the side of the heater is 32 inches. I would say most applications 30 to 32 inches from the outside wall. You could need a longer heatduct if you have a large overhang since you must maintain the distance from the chimney and anything combustable.

  20. I called your house and talked to your secretary never heard back from you?
My secretaries are just 13 and 17! With the 13 year old doing most of the answering of the phone. So bear with us. If you don't hear back from me within a reasonable time frame, either email or call again. It was not intentional!

  21. How big is the blower and does it use alot of electricity?
The blower is not very big, 1/16 horsepower. It takes less wattage than a 100 watt light bulb to run. So you electric bill does not go up from having a furnace. By using a small blower the hot air is picked up in the firebox, if we used a larger one we wouldn't pick up enough heat it would feel like you were just blowing slightly warm air. The blower moves 465 cfm a minute of warmed air from your home and thru the furnace back into you house.
  22. What happens when the electricity goes off, am I without heat?
Yes pretty much so, there will be some heat come in the heatduct. But, not enough to really help alot. If you are home and the power does go out we recommend you go outside and smother the fire down as much as you can. The heat can back up into the blower motor telling it that it is overheated even after the power comes back on. The heat duct is insulated just like the furnace and with the heatduct protruding at least 2 inches inside the wall of the house on the inside you have no fire danger. Be sure and keep curtains and other items away from in front of the heat vent.
  23. Ok I am without power sometimes during the winter what are my options?
Myself I use a dc to ac power inverter hooked to my truck or car to run the furnace if we are not going to be out for a long time and I don't want to hook up the big generator. I suggest at least buying a 500 watt continuous inverter that way you can run the heater and refrigerator or lights and tv. I just unhook one batter on my diesel truck and use it till it runs down and then start the truck and charge that battery and use the other one the next time. Works pretty handy!

  24. Is your "Heatercam" on most all the time?
Yes it is on most of the time in the daytime here in the Central time zone. During the winter I run it also in the evening. You may get to see it with snow on it or even me putting wood in it. My cats sleep on top of the furnace during the winter huddled against the chimney pipe.
